Flavor Profile: Powerful but light-textured for a Sangiovese, with ripe plums and a light earthy, smoky edge.
Origin: Tuscany, Italy (Toscana Rosso), from Sangiovese grown in the Maremma.
Grapes: Sangiovese.
Process: A short maceration, around three days on the skins, then pressed. Native yeasts and nothing added.
About the Producer: Altura is Francesco Carfagna's project on the Isola del Giglio, a small granite island off the Tuscan coast. This is his "little red", made from grapes grown by a friend on the mainland in the Maremma.
Pairing Suggestions: Grilled sausages, roast pork, tomato pasta, or an aged pecorino.
