We'll start with a few informal games to let the juices flow (and the caffeine work), then we'll start our first ever Oddkin Open: 8-players, direct elimination. We have a mandatory RSVP for 5€ which will buy you the tournament ticket AND a coffee drink, and we'll compete for a prize of 25€ worth in Oddkin webstore & shop. 🏆
Each edition will be dedicated to one great player, past or present, announced ahead of time so you can study their games (or at least pretend to).
This will come handy for the second highlight of our tiny chess festival: the Brilliancy Prize!
Yes, we're bringing back the most romantic award in chess, but with a twist: since we'll be already busy avoiding illegal moves, it would be silly to try and decide ourselves what move would be worth it from the games we'll play. That’s what we'll do instead:
we’ll show a position from a famous game played by our patron saint, and set a 5 minute clock to guess what comes next.
Be the first to call the whole combination (one to three moves) and the Brilliancy Prize is yours.
The first player couldn’t be anyone other than the great Vasyl Ivanchuk, who inspired the title of the event (just google “greatest chess interview ever”, sit back and enjoy) and the whole spirit of this gathering: playfulness, poetry, respect for the opponent's creativity, love for the game - regardless of the results.
