If you’ve walked past our flagship store on Danziger Straße or heard a friend mention “that membership food shop in Prenzlauer Berg,” this is the full explanation — what the membership actually is, what it costs, and what you get back.
The short version: you choose a monthly amount — €25, €50, or €100. Every euro you pledge comes back to you as store credit, immediately, of equal or greater value:

The credit never expires, and there’s no fixed ordering schedule.
Almost every retail price you’ve ever paid includes hidden costs that have nothing to do with the food: waste amortisation, churn, supply chain volatility. Shops price these in because they can’t predict what you’ll buy or whether you’ll come back.
A yearly membership removes that unpredictability. It’s the same logic behind decades of food activism — the Italian GAS (Gruppi di Acquisto Solidale), CSAs, and the German SoLaWi movement. When a community commits, the waste costs disappear, and prices come down for everyone. Our member prices are comparable with mainstream supermarket chains — for food produced ethically by small artisans we personally know, who are paid fairly.
Your monthly pledge is not a fee, because it’s not a cost you pay on top of your shopping. It converts into credit you spend on anything in the shop — the shelves, the deli counter, the bistro, coffee, wine, your weekly vegetable preorder. Come in for lunch every day, or save it up for a six-month olive oil order. Both work.
Fresh dairy and vegetables run on a preorder cycle: order by Wednesday 14:00, delivered the following week. This is our slowest, most deliberate mechanism — it means reducing to almost zero fresh food waste, and it means the farmers we work with harvest (or make, in the case of dairy products) what’s actually been ordered. Members who plan even a little in advance eat better and spend less. The ordering itself takes about four minutes.
Of course, our trade-offs can be considered downsides: if you like to shop food on impulse, buy single portions, want something delivered in minutes when you crave it, or want everything available all year long in reliable homogenous batches… we will frustrate you. We’re tied to seasonality and artisanal production cycles, we lean toward larger quantities and resource-efficient packaging, and some things are simply gone until next year. Even the logistics are artisanal, designed on a human scale and, therefore, imperfect.
We’d rather tell you that now: Oddkin’s membership is not for everyone - and this is totally ok!
