FAQ
About Oddkin
What makes Oddkin different from a normal food webshop?
Oddkin is not just a shop, but a collaborative ecosystem. We rethink the whole food chain, from sourcing and production to storage, distribution, and delivery, with the goal of making high-quality, sustainable food accessible at supermarket-level prices.
Your products seem more expensive than the cheapest supermarket options. How do you measure price fairness?
It depends what you're comparing. Our benchmark is the organic lines of mainstream chains like Lidl, Rewe and Edeka, not the lowest-quality mass-produced products. For example, one of our Parmigiano Reggiano is one of the most decorated in the world, yet often matches or beats the organic Parmigiano sold at those chains.
How do you decide which producers to work with?
We choose producers who share our commitment to ethical practices: ecological farming, fair pay, transparent supply chains, and genuine craftsmanship. Every product must make sense for the whole ecosystem, not just for profit, but for its positive impact across the chain.
Membership
Why do you work with subscriptions? Can't I just order freely?
You can! Anyone can shop with us at guest prices, online or in the shop. But subscriptions are the backbone of Oddkin: monthly pledges give our network of artisans stability and let us plan production, logistics and pricing sustainably. That’s why members get lower prices on everything. You still decide what and when to order; your pledge simply makes sure the whole ecosystem keeps thriving.
Which plan should I choose?
Light (25€) if you drop by now and then or travel a lot. Medium (50€, +36€ bonus credit a year) if Oddkin is your monthly pantry top-up. Family (100€, +96€ a year) if you’re filling a fridge for several people. Not sure? Start with Light. You can upgrade anytime from your account, but you can’t downgrade until your year is up.
Can I change my plan later?
Going up, yes, anytime: upgrade from your member account page and your new credit kicks in right away. Going down, not during your year, since your plan is what lets us plan with our producers. That’s why we suggest starting small if you’re unsure. You can always grow into a bigger plan, and once your 12 months are up, you’re free to renew with a lighter one.
How do I pay?
Membership runs on SEPA direct debit via GoCardless, set up in two minutes when you join. For orders on top of your credit, we take card and PayPal.
Does my store credit expire?
Not while you’re a member. Unused credit simply piles up, perfect for a big restock after a trip. When your membership ends, your credit stays in your account and you can keep spending it for three more years. Store credit can’t be paid out in cash.
What happens if I’m not in Berlin for a few months and can’t place an order?
That’s no problem. Your monthly contribution isn’t lost, it accumulates as store credit in your account. When you’re back, you can simply use the balance for future orders. Many members see it as a way of “saving up” for a big pantry restock once they return.
Can I cancel my subscription any time?
Membership is a fixed 12-month commitment. You have a 14-day right of withdrawal right after joining, and after the year it simply ends, with no automatic renewal. You can manage it anytime from your account. This stability is what lets us keep prices low and plan sustainably, a bit like a SoLaWi.
What happens at the end of my year?
It simply ends. No automatic renewal, no surprise debit. We’ll email you before the date so you can decide whether to renew for another year.
What if a payment fails?
It happens. We’ll let you know, and your store credit pauses until the payment comes through. Failed direct debits cost us a bank fee, so we pass on 5€ per failed payment. It doesn’t expire anything, it just waits.
What if I change my mind right after joining?
You have 14 days to withdraw, no reasons needed. If you’ve already used your membership (store credit spent, member discounts received), we’ll deduct that and refund the rest.
Can I give a membership as a gift?
Of course! Just reach out and we can set up an account for the lucky one!
Ordering & Delivery
How does ordering work?
We work on a weekly rhythm. Order fresh products by Wednesday 14:00 and they’re ready on Thursday of the following week, delivered or for pickup. We order them in from small producers just for you: no waste, no warehouse full of sad cheese.
Is Oddkin only for Berliners?
Right now, yes. Berlin is our testbed for proving that this model can work. Once the system is stable here, we would love to expand, step by step, into other cities and regions.
Where do you deliver?
Everywhere inside the Berlin S-Bahn Ring, by cargo bike. Outside the Ring? For standing orders over 150€ we can talk, so write to us.
How much is delivery?
Delivery fee is 7€, and free for orders over 100€.
Is there a minimum order?
Your order has to reach a minimum of 50€ for delivery. No minimum for Pick-up though!
Can I pick up my order instead?
Of course. Choose pickup at checkout and collect it at the shop, Danziger Straße 49 or at one of our pickup hubs from the list at checkout.
What if I’m not home when the cargo bike arrives?
If a delivery can’t be handed over, we may have to charge the extra trip, so please make sure to let us know if you're not sure to be home, and/or let us know where to leave your order (at your door, neighbor, nearby shop, safe spot...).
Products
How do you decide which producers to work with?
We choose producers who share our commitment to ethical practices: ecological farming, fair pay, transparent supply chains, and genuine craftsmanship. Every product must make sense for the whole ecosystem, not just for profit, but for its positive impact across the chain.
Are your products organic?
Many of our producers farm without synthetic chemicals, and some go well beyond what any label requires. But Oddkin itself isn’t a certified organic shop, so we don’t sell anything as “bio”. What we can promise is that we know who makes everything, and how.
Can I return a product?
Fresh food (cheese, meat, fruit, vegetables, deli) can’t be returned for hygiene reasons, but if something isn’t right, tell us within 24 hours and we’ll make it right. Unopened shelf-stable goods and sealed wine can be returned within 14 days of receiving them.
Do you have allergen information?
Yes, it’s on every product label, and we’re happy to check anything before you order. Reach out through our contact form or ask in the shop.
Do I need to be 18 to buy wine?
Yes. We may ask for ID at delivery or in the shop.
Can I suggest a product or a producer?
Please do! Half of our best finds came from members. Tell us in the shop or reach out by email.
The Shop & Community
Where is the shop and when is it open?

We’d love to hear from you, especially if you farm with care, pay fairly and can tell us exactly how your product is made. Reach out with a few words about what you do.
