Flavor Profile: Bright and citrus-led: lemony fruit with a hint of pear and melon, good acidity and a lively finish.
Origin: Kröv, Mosel, Germany, from the Kröv Paradies plantings.
Grapes: Donauriesling, a disease-resistant (PIWI) variety.
Process: Grown in a vitiforestry project, with resistant vines planted among trees and animals on the land. The estate has farmed organically since 2011 and has made natural wine since 2014.
About the Producer: Jan-Matthias Klein runs Staffelter Hof, a historic Riesling estate in the Mosel. After the hot seasons of 2017 to 2019 he began planting resistant varieties, now over three hectares, as a way to farm with far less spraying and to rethink what vineyards could look like.
Pairing Suggestions: Fresh fish, oysters, spring salads, or spicy Southeast Asian dishes.
